As we begin a new year, I’ve been reflecting on how I spend my time and how I can deepen my connection with God. One thought that struck me is how little time it truly takes to make a meaningful impact on our spiritual lives. With that in mind, I’ve decided to challenge myself to dedicate at least one hour a week to attending Mass—52 hours over the entire year. Out of the grand total of 8,760 hours in a year, that is just .59% of the entire year spent at Mass.
It’s a small commitment in the grand scheme of life, but one that has the power to bring immense blessings and peace. Mass is a time to be nourished by God’s Word, to experience the Eucharist, and to grow in community with one another. I know that carving out this one hour each week will help me center my life more fully on Christ and His love.
There may be weeks that I am traveling, or someone in our household is under the weather, and attending weekend Mass that week might be difficult, if not impossible. But that might open a new opportunity to attend daily Mass in our Chapel, or to attend a Highland Catholic School Mass with my family and the entire student population. What a blessing that is!
With that being said, I’d like to invite each of you to join me this year. Whether it’s a return to weekly Mass or simply recommitting to making it a priority, I would love for us all to embrace this opportunity to grow together as a parish family.
Here’s to a year of spiritual growth and deeper faith—just one hour at a time.
