Baptism joins us with Christ and forms us into God’s disciples. It is the first Sacrament to be celebrated before the Church’s seven sacraments and it is the first Sacrament of Initiation; the other two being Confirmation and First Eucharist. The Catholic Church baptizes people of all ages–infants to adults. Through Baptism, we receive the outpouring of the Holy Spirit and accept God’s transforming love.
Families choosing to baptize their infant are invited to attend a Baptism preparation class at either Lumen Christi. See schedules below.
The Catholic Church requires a copy of your child’s birth certificate or adoption certificate before celebrating the baptism and for our sacramental records. You may bring it to the preparation class, drop it off at the parish office, or email a scan of it as an attachment to Lynn Schelitzche, Director of Faith Formation.
Baptism preparation is required for new parents, or those who have not had a class in 3 years, before the Baptism of their child. Parents reflect on their own faith life past and present; spirituality of children and families and how to foster it; and review the Rite of Baptism.
Sponsor/godparent must be a practicing Catholic, at least 16 years of age and confirmed in the Catholic Church. A person of another Christian denomination may stand as a witness.
Baptisms are scheduled at:
Saturday 4:30pm Mass
Sunday 8:30am Mass
Sunday 10:30 am Mass
or at 12:00 pm Noon, Sunday after the Mass.
